Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books On My Summer TBR List

         

1. We Were Liars (E. Lockhart)

I already have this book in my possession and plan on getting to it soon. I’m not quite sure what I think about it yet, though – at first I just heard rave reviews about it, but then some mixed ratings started to pour in after it was released, so now I’m slightly scared. I loved E. Lockhart’s Ruby Oliver series (of course) but wasn’t a huge fan of The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks, so we’ll have to see which side of the scale this book falls on.

2. Since You’ve Been Gone (Morgan Matson)

This is another book that I already have – I actually bought it based on its cool cover (there’s a picture on the other side of the book jacket!) and all of the rave reviews for it. I’ve read both of Morgan Matson’s other books and liked both of them, so hopefully this book will work out even better! And hopefully Kelly Clarkson won’t be playing through my head the whole time I read it.

3. Prisoner of Night and Fog (Anne Blankman)

The summary of this book alone caught my attention (quasi-niece of Adolf Hitler during his rise to power?!), but all of the rave reviews since it came out made me really excited. I like history when it’s interesting stories about unusual bits of history. Plus it sounds like this book has a new and intriguing spin on Hitler that doesn’t portray him as a boring, faceless villain yet makes him sound even more terrifying.

4. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (Jenny Han)

I haven’t read any of Jenny Han’s books yet (another one of her books is on this list, actually) and some of the reviews have been slightly mixed (well, everyone seems to say that she sounds really young, but that could be a big issue for me even if it’s the only one), but the idea of a girl’s secret letters to all of her old crushes and boyfriends and a complex sister relationship sounds really interesting and adorable!

5. Nantucket Red (Leila Howland)

I had some problems with Nantucket Blue, but I’m hoping that this sequel takes everything I loved about the first book without including so much girl-, fat-, and slut-shaming like the first book did. This book seems like a cute, fun summer read, so I just really hope it ends up being cute and fun and not slightly frustrating!

6. Dairy Queen (Catherine Gilbert Murdock)

I don’t know why, but this book never looked appealing to me. Maybe it was the fact that it involved football, which I’m quite sick of hearing about and I’m not even part of a big football-loving family. I’ve heard some really good things about it, though, so I know I should at least give it a chance!

7. From What I Remember (Stacy Kramer and Valerie Thomas)

This book was on my TBR list for a little while but I could never find it anywhere, so I took it off during one of my to-read shelf cleanses. When I saw that my library actually had it as an ebook, I added it again because it sounds like a pretty fluffy and fun book with little substance (students stuck in Mexico on the day of their high school graduation!), so hopefully that ends up being the case.

8. The Summer I Turned Pretty (Jenny Han)

And here’s the second Jenny Han book! This is her most popular book (other than her newest release, which could take its place) and it seems like there are some mixed things about the series in general, but I want to at least check out the first book and see what I think about it. It seems like another perfect summer book – I mean, the word is in the title!

9. On the Fence (Kasie West)

The newest Kasie West book! And it’s another contemporary! And it looks adorable and fluffy and fun! And there’s been a lot of good buzz about it from bloggers who have read ARCs! And it looks at the whole “girl who’s mostly friends with boys” thing in a genuine way rather than a way that implies she’s better because she’s not like other girls! Can you tell I’m excited? I think this is one that I’m going to have to buy as soon as it comes out, even if I haven’t read it yet!

10. Ruin and Rising (Leigh Bardugo)

And then there’s the final book in the Grisha series! I’m not obsessed with the series or anything, but it is a pretty fun book and I’m quite interested to see how the series will end. I want more of Stormhund (can’t remember if I spelled his name right and I’m too lazy to check)!
